Claude spends a New York summer following the movements of her closest friend, Ellen, whose new boyfriend draws her into an increasingly unstable situation. Music and a job at a neighbourhood club bring Claude into contact with other queer young people and with a possible life beyond the friendship. When violence enters their circle, Claude has to reconsider what loyalty to Ellen is asking her to accept.
