In Japanese-occupied Korea, Sook-hee is hired as maid to Lady Hideko at a remote estate. She is secretly working with a con man who plans to marry Hideko, place her in an institution and take her inheritance. As Sook-hee learns the routines of the house and grows closer to Hideko, she begins to suspect that the plan depends on facts neither woman has been told.
