Camille teaches at a Christian college and is expected to marry a colleague whose life fits the institution around them. After meeting Petra, a performer with a travelling circus, she begins visiting a social world outside the college. Their relationship requires Camille to decide whether the faith, work and future she has inherited can accommodate what she now knows about herself.
